Time
- Do you prefer to show up early or late?
- How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
- When is it considered being late? 5 minutes? 15 minutes? 30 minutes?
- How long do you practice your ASL?
- How long does it take to drive to school/work?
- Are you a morning person or night owl?
- What does your schedule look like?
Before we get into all the TIME signs, a few students may be confused or have trouble remembering how to sign some words. Here's a picture to explain:
* CALENDAR / SCHEDULE - Draw a graph shape on your non-dominant hand to represent all the lines down and across.
* WEEK - Dominant index finger slides across non-dominant palm to represent "one line" of the calendar.
* MONTH - Hold up non-dominant index finger (palm out) and slide dominant index finger (palm in) down the back of the finger to represent "all of the lines" of the calendar.
* EVERY SATURDAY (or other days) - Do the sign for the day, in this case an S for Saturday, and pull it straight down to represent every Saturday on the calendar.
There are endless ways to chat about time - "what time is it?", "when is your ASL class?", "what are you doing this weekend?" - but let's make it a little more challenging to practice:
